This is a University project I made with Adobe Photoshop.

This piece is meant to be a parody on the idea that creating entertainment is like gambling only the small indie devs are the gamblers while the companies hires the gambler, each character represents a film or video game company while the dealers are represented by the internet.

Companies like Disney would give over 5 million dollars to their directors and expect twice as much back and often they afraid of trying anything new so they use cheats and tricks to ensure they don’t lose a single penny. The smaller indie developers would use crowdfunding to support their ideas which can be equally as luck based depending on the product and how much word of mouth spreads over the internet. Sometimes they can have a big success or a massive failure depending on the internet’s reaction which is what the dealers represent.

I was trying to look up parodies like disma world but a corporate mascot being evil has been done to death so I needed to think of something more unique until I remembered an interview with George Lucas who said that “entertainment is like gambling”, I like the quote so much that I could take that entire idea and expand on it with some inspiration from Cassius Marcellus Coolidge’s artwork about dogs playing poker.

I wish I could’ve expanded on the idea of this piece by putting some film franchises on the cards that I was going to do but I ran out time. I could’ve added more film icons but I chose to have more video game icons because I know that part of the entertainment industry more. There’re a few tweaks I wish I could’ve implemented but otherwise I’m very proud of this piece and hopefully one day I can make this concept more interesting.
